The Metropolitan Correctional Center ("MCC") is a correctional facility where correctional officers, such as Tova Noel and Michael Thomas, were employed [1] [3] [5]. On or about August 10, 2019, Noel and Thomas, while on duty at the MCC, failed to perform mandated counts of prisoners under their watch in the MCC's Special Housing Unit ("SHU") [1] [3] [5]. The MCC is also where Jeffrey Epstein was housed, and his quarter entries and other records are subject to a protective order [2]. The MCC has a Special Housing Unit ("SHU") where inmates, including Justin Rivera, are given access to laptops for a minimum of 3 hours a day [4]. The MCC is located in the Southern District of New York, and cases related to the facility are heard in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York [1] [3] [4] [6].
