The DOJ, or US Department of Justice, was involved in an ongoing investigation as of January 2020 [1] [2] [3]. The investigation was being assisted by the Duke of York, who was asked for his help in January 2020 [2] [3]. However, it was concluded that the DOJ's dealings with the Duke of York were not designed to seek his assistance in investigating and prosecuting the targets of the investigation, but instead were used to gather publicity for Mr Geoffrey S. Berman, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York [2] [3]. The DOJ also had an Attache/Magistrat de liaison americain at the U.S. Embassy in Paris as of January 2021 [4]. An interview was conducted at the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York on August 14, 2019, with a Federal Bureau of Prisons Lieutenant, and was attended by representatives from the DOJ Office of the Inspector General, among others [6]. The DOJ was also mentioned in an email sent on July 20, 2016, although the context of the email is unclear [5].
