On your phone calendar you should see red text "calendars" at the bottom. Tap it and uncheck anything not under your google account. Note the colors of your google calendar. Then close that screen and make a test event on your google calendar here. I'm guessing that your iCloud calendars got turned on during the upgrade and led you to make events on them, when you thought you were using google. If I'm right, this test event should email you — I'll send you details of moving events to the google calendars and removing the extra calendars.
